Dr. Najah A. Barton

Dr.  Najah  A. Barton is a native of Brooklyn, New York. Born in Guyana, South America, her mother relocated to the ‘Big Apple’ when Dr. Barton was five years old. She remained there until joining the Armed Forces in 2006. Since 2006, Dr. Barton has been a Federal government employee, working in the legal services, advocacy, and victim services fields — on active duty, and as a civil servant. As a victim services professional for over ten years, she has lent her professional and personal time to a host of pursuits.

This includes serving as a victim’s advocate, mental health counselor, professor, and a training facilitator. At this time, encompassed under her leadership in her role as a senior-level manager within the Department of Justice, Dr. Barton oversees specialized programming inclusive of mental health, victim services, and other sensitive care services. Prior to that, she served as the Victim Advocate Program Manager, Headquarters Marine Corps, United States Marine Corps. Dr. Barton served as the Marine Corps subject-matter expert (SME) for all victim services issues including but not limited to: compensation via the Transitional Compensation for Abused Family Members Program, child maltreatment, domestic abuse, policy writing for the Marine Corps, and other akin or co-related family/intimate partner violence matters. As a vibrant and driven professional, Dr. Barton is engaged and involved with many entities. She serves on the Board of Directors for a local non-profit agency in the state of Virginia, which focuses on re-entry services for returning citizens; provides unpaid mental health counseling services at two local non-profit healthcare organizations in Virginia, and has previously facilitated group(s) at several locations including at her local Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, DC. Dr. Barton holds a Doctorate of Education in Counselor Education and Supervision from Argosy University, Northern Virginia; a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology from Argosy University San Diego; a Master of Arts in Human Behavior from National University, and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Park University.
